Hybrids

Hybrids. Lately I have been studying the art of hybrids. What is a yoga hybrid,, you ask? Well, if you are a yogi and have an ongoing practice at home, you have likely melded two ancient poses into one. Usually this means we are opening up an area of the body, stretching and strengthening another area of the body, and perhaps taking on two yogic poses at once. Balance becomes challenging, just as it is in everyday life. For example, today I tried vrksasana in vasisthasana. I loved it! A hybrid! pose was born.
Can we actually wash the dishes well, AND talk on the phone at the same time? It is a dish-call, a hybrid built out of the necessity of fighting the shortening of time. .A hybrid born out of necessity. It can be a good thing! Suddenly I have a bit more time for other tasks!  

If in your minds eye your practice becomes 'stale', this is a great way to mix it up. See how many poses you can tie into one, beautiful, peaceful pose and flow into the next, and the next...and suddenly you have built a hybrid practice. What a wonderful way to shake things up. That said,, go for it.

how awesome, I just discovered your yoga blog! I have seen your little daughter Liesl on youtube, she seems to be a smart and beautiful little girl. If America wouldn´t be so far away I would love to do a yoga class with you!
